Creator of viral Trump Gaza video warns of possible dangers from AI
When President Donald Trump's announced a proposal to "take over" the Gaza Strip last month, Solo Avital and his partner created an AI video intended as satire. It was briefly posted on social media but than removed. Weeks later, the president himself shared the video on Truth Social platform. In an interview with BBC News, Avital said the clip highlighted the dangers of AI's ability to create highly convincing fake content.
The Usefulness--and Possible Dangers--of Machine Learning The Regulatory Review
University of Pennsylvania workshop addresses potential biases in the predictive technique. Stephen Hawking once warned that advances in artificial intelligence might eventually "spell the end of the human race." And yet decision-makers from financial corporations to government agencies have begun to embrace machine learning's enhanced power to predict--a power that commentators say "will transform how we live, work, and think." During the first of a series of seven Optimizing Government workshops held at the University of Pennsylvania Law School last year, Aaron Roth, Associate Professor of Computer and Information Science at the University of Pennsylvania, demystified machine learning, breaking down its functionality, its possibilities and limitations, and its potential for unfair outcomes. Chairman of the Penn Department of Criminology Richard Berk offers commentary. Machine learning, in short, enables users to predict outcomes using past data sets, Roth said.
Elon Musk Reminds Us of the Possible Dangers of Unregulated AI
The tongue-in-cheek post contained a picture of a gambling addiction ad stating "In the end the machines will win," -- not so obviously referring to gambling machines. On a more serious note, Musk said that the danger AI poses is more of a risk than the threat posed by North Korea. If you're not concerned about AI safety, you should be. This echoes his remarks earlier this month when he said, "AI just something that I think anything that represents a risk to the public deserves at least insight from the government because one of the mandates of the government is the public well-being." Nobody likes being regulated, but everything (cars, planes, food, drugs, etc) that's a danger to the public is regulated.
